Rest is resistance , so take a break 💖
What would it be like to live in a well rested world ?
Just popping in to thank you for inviting me into your inbox and to wish you a fabulous August.
I am taking a break until September , when I will be back with some exciting new offerings , more clarity and some soul soothing poems.
(In August I may show up in notes or do a live , if I feel moved to.)
I am grateful for your companionship, as being on Substack is an important part of my Creative Practice and Life . Now lets talk about rest zzzzzzz
Do you have a challenging relationship to rest like me ?
In the much quoted words of Bayo Akomolafe ……
“the times are urgent, we must slow down.”
Except I don’t easily , its an old pattern,
“the Devil makes works for idle hands etc”.
Its not just me personally, we are in a culture where productivity is valued and being busy is said with pride…yet,
“Permission to rest is a message of power over oppression” .
So says the wonderful
in her book Rest is Resistance. These are Tricia’s Tenets of the Nap Ministry
Rest is a form of resistance because it disrupts and pushes back against capitalism and white supremacy.
Our bodies are a site of liberation
Naps provide a portal to imagine, invent and heal.
Our DreamSpace has been stolen and we want it back.
We will reclaim it through rest.
Dearest Courageous , May you be enjoying this season of the year and your life , knowing how precious and valuable you are in this time of pain, healing ❤️🩹 and transformation. Wishing you deep rest, time to play and time to celebrate all you are.
With Love and Dedication,
Thanks Diana 🙏🏻
Enjoy your rest Susan, I also take a break in August and like you and so many other women, recognise that we have been 'programmed' to think we should do more, set goals, work towards an 'achievenent' when all the truly wise spiritual teachers (as opposed to modern-day capitalists dressed up as 'coaches' constantly pushing for 'growth') have always spoken of time for stillness, a wintering phase and recognition of the maturation of a being. There are many women who have resisted this internalised patriarchal residue and who advocate for a more sensual approach to life, aligned with Mother Nature as a brilliant guide.... At the end of every day we are invited through our circadian rhythm to rest/dream/sleep and explore our threshold to the "turiya" state of pure consciousness. We're evolved as organisms to rest every day. Karen Brody from "Daring to Rest" has a lot of free resources to check out. I wish you a wonderful rest time and trust that you will be able to hear what's coming through in your next phase of being! You are enough, we are enough, there is enough! 🙏🏼
